Thousands of verses of German author Heinrich Heine, which had been translated by Albanian poet Lasgush Poradeci, will be published by Albanian publisher Argenta LMG. There are about 45 notebooks containing the translations, which the poet’s daughter, Maria Gusho, has made available from her father’s archive after a half century in storage. Poradeci translated the poems while he was working for publishers Naim Frash쳩, from 1954-1957. “The manuscripts were found by Mehmet G컨illi, after the publishing house was destroyed. So he took them and tried to publish them,” according to Maria Gusho. The manuscripts found by G컨illi are copies that Poradeci had sent to the publishing house, as the originals are treasured by Maria Gusho. After completing Heine, Poradeci translated Goethe. Poradeci used to say of his works, “Goethe is great, but Heine is sweeter”. Lasgush Poradeci is well-known for his rich and beautiful Albanian, even though he never attended a single class of Albanian. Maria Gusho says her father was born in Ohri, at the time a Turkish vilayet (province), where he began his studies. He studied in Manastir during the years 1909-1916 and, after that, in Romania and Austria. Publishing house Argenta LMG says it will continue publishing the translation of Goethe’s poems as well as the doctorate thesis of Poradeci written about the Romanian poet Eminescu.
