WASHNGTON D.C, Feb.15- Auron Tare, the head of the Albanian National Trust Foundation, addressed the annual American Conference of Heritage and Cultural Tourism. This conference is one of the most important global forums where representatives from a variety of institutions from many countries exchange thoughts on issues. Participants include important global media such as National Geographic and CNN Traveler. The conference also serves as an event where tourism is scholarly discussed and, hence, attended by representatives of prestigious universities such as Yale, the Israeli university of Jerusalem, and others. The conference seeks to promote responsible tourism, seek out ways to protect the environment and promote the values of historical and cultural wealth of countries.
Tare often speaks about the national parks of southern Albania and the projects related to Butrint and the city of Gjirokastra, both UNESCO world heritage list entries. Summer schools and family tourism efforts have resulted in successful experiences, Tare said. He also referred to opportunities that the American travel industry can provide Albania. Tare examined the experience of Tirana as a capital that can offer potential as the center of the dynamic changes engulfing Albania and as a potential crossroads of cooperation between Albanian museums and other important tourist sites. Tirana, said Tare, can be the start from which everybody can come and explore Albania and its positive changes in recent times are adapting it as an important tourist destination.
