This week end art lovers had the opportunity to visit the personal exhibition of the well known Albanian artist Agim Sulaj. “The Dreamer” is how Sulaj has named his exhibition which was opened at the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana. There are 33 paintings in oil by the artist inspired by moments from his early childhood. One of the staff members of the Gallery said that the exhibition had attracted a large number of admirers. The artist for many years now has been living and working in Rimini, Italy, but the exhibition has been visited by well known artists and collectors.
These paintings exhibited at the Arts Gallery in Tirana are among the latest works by Sulaj and some of them are a part of the fund of the well known Art Gallery “Forni” of Stefano Forni in Bologna. A special corner is devoted to the paintings which have won the artist special recognition and prizes in World Cartoon competitions such as in Germany, Kosovo. The United States, France, Belgium, Turkey, Iran, Italy etc. The creativity in cartoons dates back to November 2006 and January-February 2008.
“I chose the title of a painting in this exhibition, “The Dreamer”, referring to the dream which follows us at every step we take. Every wish to break away from spiritual poverty and monotonous routine is nothing other than an effort to realize a dream,” Sulaj said at the opening of the exhibition. Sulaj returns to Tirana following the success of the exhibition, “The Book of History,” opened in Tirana three years ago, meanwhile art lovers have been attracted by the works of this artistic and his super realistic paintings, a trend which is rarely applied in Albania.
