The European Week of Culture in Albania will be opened by Italian artists on 4 May, at 19:00 hours, with a recital by Gennaro Cannavacciuolo, organized by the Italian Institute of Culture in Tirana, in cooperation with the National Opera and Ballet Theatre. “Gran Variete” described by critics as, “a small treasure, but with brilliant qualities, an ABC of comical and musical techniques, is a recital in two times, which revives the repertoire of the small twenties’ theatres, recuperating the songs of the times before the Big Shows, the songs of the caf顣oncerts and instilling them with spirit, wit and a dose of irony. Italian artist Gennaro Cannavacciuolo, accompanied on the Grande Piano by Maestro Marco Bucci, will embark on a long amble, to spite the years, of songs typical of the era of the people’s theatre. The lyrics have been re-written by such well known authors as Pisano-Cioffi, Gill, Ripp and other popular authors who are a part of the history of the stage cantatas. Gran Variete marks the return to Tirana of Gennaro Cannavacciuolo, actor, singer, cabaret artist, an artist of tremendous imagination and mobility on the stage, the heir of the great Neapolitan school of Theatre.(Tirana Times Staff)
