Former Albanian police officer arrested for forgery

TIRANA, Aug 31 – Police in the southernmost town of Saranda arrested a former police officer Saturday (Aug. 22) who was suspected of forging 26 different stamps and seals of public institutions.
Investigators said Selman Lumani, 55, a taxi driver, had been stamping documents in the name of the foreign ministry, interior ministry, education ministry and other institutions, as well as Greek offices in Albania and various institutions in Greece.
Trying to avoid arrest, he jumped from the window of his third-floor apartment and ended up in critical condition.

Extradited Albanians

TIRANA, Aug 31 – Many Albanians have been extradited from various countries around the world in the last month following closer contacts between the country’s police and their counterparts.
ՉDenis Balliu, 37, from Durres was extradited from Rome, Italy to be put on trial on charges of murder. He is accused of killing a person in capital Tirana in 2007.
ՉKastriot Frasheri, 40, from Berat, was extradited from Milam, Italy to serve 12 years imprisonment for forcing a woman into prostitution.
ՉGramoz Yzeiri, 38, from Fier was extradited from Texas, US where he was living under a false name. Yzeiri was wanted for a murder committed in 1998 in Fier and also illegal weapon possession.
ՉArben Kendezi, 40, was arrested in neighboring Greece and is to be extradited to Albania where he is charged in the murder of a police office in 1997 during the tumultuous events following the collapse of the failed pyramid investment schemes that took the country to the brink of anarchy. Kendezi is also sentenced to six years imprisonment for breaking the Saranda bank in 1997.
