2 Albania Movies At Prishtina Film Fest

There are two Albanian movies competing in the International Film Fest in Prishtina, Kosovo, which kicked off on September 22nd, with an absolute premier of Gjergj Xhuvani’s “East-West-East”

Albanian-Italian comedy-drama “East-West-East” opened up the International Film Fest in Prishtina on September 22nd. Director Gjergj Xhuvani, wrote the script for this movie in collaboration with his father, another famous Albanian writer, Dhimit철Xhuvani. “East-West-East” is a movie about the last year of the communist regime, 1990. A champion cyclist is asked to build a team to race for the Tour de France. But their trip is interrupted in Trieste, when they are told that they should return to Albania, since the regime is about to collapse.
“East-West- East” features well-known Albanian actors such as Ndri読 Xhepa, Helidon Fino, Fation Pustina, Ervin Bejleri, Gentian Hazizi, Lulzim Beqja, Romir Zalla etc. Xhuvani’s movie is an absolute premiere in Prishtina Film Fest, where “The Time of the Comet” another Albanian movie will be shown as well. “The Time of the Comet” directed by Fatmir Ko詠takes us back to a distant time, when Albanians had to fight for their borders. This movie had some very good reviews when it was first screened last year, and has won different awards.
Different movies like “The Dead Man and the Living Man” by the Croatian director Kristian Milic, “Look at Me” by the Montenegrin director Maria Perovic that had previously participated at the Durr쳠Film Festival, will be competing as well at the Prishtina Film Fest.
Also competing for the “Hyjensha e Art뢠award; “Opium War” by Afghan director Siddiq Barmaki, “Storm” by Hans Christian Schmidt-it, Germany; “Hush Your Mouth” by Tom Tyrwhitt, Great Britain; “Snow” by Aida Begi笠Bosnia and Herzegovina; and “I am from Titov Veles” by Teona Strugar Mitevska from FYROM.
Prishtina Film Fest will screen some of the most famous movies in world cinema, winners of different important awards. Classified under the “Winners” category, movies like “Katin” by Andrzej Wajda-s, “The White Ribbon” by the Austrian director Michael Haneke, “Three Monkeys” by Nuri Bilge Ceylan, “The Milk of Sorrow” by the Peruvian director Claudia Llosa, winner of the Golden Bear at Berlinale 2009 will be shown during the event.
Prishtina Film Fest aims to bring together the best of the world’s cinema, along with the best of Kosovo’s cinema, in order to introduce it to the international public. For this reason the organizers have thought of a Pre war and Post war Cinema program, where the audience will have the chance to watch movies from the pre and post war Kosovo cinema, such as “The Wind and the Oak” by Besim Sahat誵, “Kukumi” by Isa Qosja, “White Traces” by Ekrem Kryeziu and “I Used to Have a Name” by Arben Kastrati etc.
“Hyjnesha e Art뢠award will be given in six categories; Best movie, Best director, Best actor and actress, special jury award and the audience award.
