On November 9, 1989 the Berlin Wall fell. For us Germans, the remembrance of this event is important and special. The fall of the Berlin Wall symbolizes the figurative end of communist regimes in Southeastern Europe. In this context, 9 November 1989 is not only a national remembrance day for Germans, but has historical significance that goes beyond the borders of our country. There are also numerous common points with the Albanian history. Twenty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall the German Embassy with the help and generosity of its partners and sponsors organizes the German culture weeks themed “German October”, which has become now after two years, a solid tradition. The main subject of most activities is “20 years from the fall of the Wall”.
A posters exhibition in English (opened on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Wall in the German Embassy) sheds light on the events behind the scenes of 1989’s autumn in Germany.
The play “Mauerkinder – Wall kids” is brought in the scene of the Academy of Fine Arts by Albanian students in a very entertaining way.
An artistic exhibition at Dajti International Hotel will try to provide an answer to the questions how have the German events of 1989 changed the European political and cultural map?
The German embassy invites everyone to meet again this autumn the German culture through a range of other projects of music, art, film, science and literature.
Heartfelt thanks goes to all partners of the German October. Without your support setting up such broad and ambitious activities would have not been possible.
