“Mira”, an Albanian movie produced by Dyrrachium Production USA and Maku Production, directed by Dhimit철Ismailaj has won the “Honorable Mention” award at the fourth edition of the Community Film Fest in Toronto, Canada.
The idea for this movie came by observing media and different events that have been going on in Eastern Europe, the Balkans, and especially in Albania. The terrible and horrific stories of corruption, killings, human trafficking, drug trafficking, and prostitution are some phenomena that mushroomed after the fall of communism.
The story is set in present time Albania. Mira is a young woman in a moral dilemma about herself and society’s way of conduct, and who needs to put together $10000, while confronted by her own hidden desires. Mira represents that part of society that is struggling to keep up with the old family values, while surrounded by the decline of society’s morality.
Community Film Festival is a charitable organization, combining films and videos followed by panel discussions that include a question and answer section for individuals and communities to engage in a dialogue of social issues and cultural exchange through the powerful language of film in all genres. Its main objective is to bring communities together to increase awareness and understanding that we are more alike than not.
COMMFFEST presents a broad and diverse overview of films representing current affairs and relevant issues that affect our communities, providing an opportunity for filmmakers to express themselves freely and connect with audiences on a more personal level. The collective mix of film, filmmakers, and audiences creates a dynamic atmosphere to provoke thought and stimulate further understanding and exploration of ideas, attitudes, and emotions it can foster.
Selected by a jury panel, the handcrafted awards are given to filmmakers from each genre, whose work demonstrates the ability to make a difference to their audience.
