TIRANA, March 22 – Renowned painter Zef Shoshi has opened a personal retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana displaying some of the best works of his 50-year career. The exhibition includes works created during his Academy studies in Russia, during the socialist realism period and after the early 90s.
Shoshi’s painting exhibition features portraits, landscapes and compositions created in different techniques. He uses historical and lyrical motifs especially from the northern Zadrima area which has inspired him to create many portraits and compositions.
The artwork created by him during the past 7 years is being displayed for the first time. His retrospective exhibition starts with a Self-portrait created in 1955, a group of paintings created in the St. Petersburg Academy, and dozens of others created during the communist regime and in the past 20 years. Two newly created paintings in 2010 are also on display.
Shoshi is also known as the painter of the portraits of late communist dictator Enver Hoxha and important political events during the communist period.
The exhibition will be open to the public until April 9.
