The ballet will be premiered on Sunday April 11 and later on April 12, 14 and 16 at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet at 19.00
The National Theatre of Opera and Ballet will stage, this weekend, the premiere of Carmen as a ballet with music by Bizet, Albeniz, Chabrier, Massenet and choreography by Italy’s Fredy Franzutti.
The ballet is being staged by the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet in cooperation with the “Balletto del sud” theatrical company led by Franzutti. Choreographer Franzutti first staged the ballet in Italy in November 2009 with Albania ballet dancers Enada Hoxha and Gerd Vaso starring.
The libretti of the ballet in two acts are based on the story with the same title by Prosper Merimee. Mostly known as an opera, Carmen is set in Spain in the 1830s and tells the story of Carmen, a beautiful Gypsy with a fiery temper.
Appreciating the Albania theatrical school and the efforts Albanian dancers are making to stage this ballet, Franzutti said, “The body and ballet language are international and universal. The dancers are all determined to give their best for a successful show.”
The Italian choreographer will also be the stage and costume designer of the ballet.
A mixed cast of Albanian and Italian dancers will perform in the ballet including Enada Hoxha, Paola Acosta, and Ervis Nallbani. The symphonic orchestra of the Opera House will be conducted by Italy’s Francesco Libetta.
The ballet will be premiered on Sunday, April 11 and later on April 12, 14 and 16 at 19.00.
The ballet comes after the successful stage of the Rigoletto, an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi from March 20 to 24. The opera was staged in cooperation with Italian directors, conductors and designers in the frame of “Italy and Albania, Two Peoples, One Sea, One Friendship” season of events.
