TIRANA, Jan. 19 – EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele’s spokeswoman Natasha Buttler repeated Wednesday that all political factors in Albania should respect each other.
Asked from Albanian private TV channels on a reaction to Monday’s heated parliamentary debate Buttler said that politicians should be cold blooded and respect each other. She urged they should respect a different opinion and use the institutional tools to resolve their disputes.
Buttler repeated that politics was one of the main issues of the 12 key areas Albania is asked from the European Union to work this year.
She also warned that Albania should respect the freedom of the media, denouncing any attack on the freedom of journalists.
It is well-known and clearly said from Brussels that Albania was denied the candidate status because of its longstanding political stalemate.
The ruling Democratic Party (DP) and the opposition Socialist Party (SP) have been wrangling since the June 2009 general elections, which the SP insists were manipulated and require a thorough investigation.
