TIRANA, March 6 – The National Historic Museum has handed over to the Central State Film Archives World War II footage of English commandos disembarking in Spilje, in the southernmost district of Saranda on July 29, 1944. The 35 mm film footage from World War II was shot by Peter Hopkinson, a renowned British camera operator during the war time. It was donated to the National Historic Museum by Bejtullah Destani, a researcher and scholar of Albanian-British cultural relations. The silent film shows the morning of July 29, 1944 when four British ships approached the Spilje coast in Saranda. The aim of this operation was to support the resistance of Albanian partisans fighting in these areas.
