TIRANA, June 25 – “Shopping and F**king,” a play by English playwright Mark Ravenhill, considered by some as the first play in the history of theater to become world-famous because of its title, will make its premiere in Tirana in a performance directed by Kosovo’s Fatos Berisha.

“I think that the theatre still has the potential of opening up the debate about taboo topics. In the end, during its history the theatre was not only for fun, but also raised social issues. I think there is no time for soft and romantic tales. It is time for brutal, provoking and why not black comedy shows, contemporary and true stories about true people, stories about morals in immoral times,” said Fatos Berisha.

The show held in the frame of the Albania-Kosovo cultural exchange program is scheduled to stage at the National Theatre on Friday June 26.

When first produced, “Shopping and F**king” received mixed reviews. Some were shocked by the play’s sexually violent content, which includes the pseudo-rape of an underage male by other males. Other critics were drawn to the play’s black humour, and its mixture of Sadean and Marxist philosophies.
