TIRANA, July 9 – The Silence Teatro company from Bergamo will represent Italy at the 13th edition of the Butrint international theatre festival which is making its comeback in late July after last year’s absence.
The Italian company will stage the “Voci Straniere,” (Strange Voices) play directed by Luigi Pezzotti on the festival’s second night on July 19.
“Voci Straniere” brings to the stage the million of stories, identical yet different, of men, women, children driven away from their land by intolerance or poverty or from political, racial, or religious wars, 9colonne agency reports.
The play is part of the new edition of the International Butrinti Theatre Festival, which since 2000 sees the archaeological site in the southern Albania near the border with Greece, host in July the International Theatre Festival. “All shows are held in the evening, when the park is lit by torches and viewers sit on the steps of the Ancient Greek theater. In this charming place, the fascinated public can learn about the Silence Teatro project, which for years – with its touring shows – has taken part in important festivals in Europe.”
Alfred Bualoti, the festival’s director, says this year’s edition scheduled to be held from July 18 to 22 at the amphitheatre of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Butrint will showcase only three performances by foreign theatres.
“The festival’s 13th edition will bring on stage five performances from Italy, Bulgaria, Macedonia and two from Albania which will be represented with The True Apology of Socrates monodrama by veteran actor Mirush Kabashi and Sophocles’ Electra directed by Laert Vasili,” says Bualoti.
