TIRANA, July 18 – Albania’s coach believes the national football team has a good chance at a historic participation in the finals of the European Championship next year.
After a decision last week by CAS to award three points to Albania for the abandoned match last year in Belgrade, Serbia, there have been increased hopes Albania can make its debut into a major international tournament, a feat the small country has never accomplished.
To do so, the squad needs to achieve good results in the next four remaining matches in September and October.
Coach Giovanni de Biasi has been interviewed by many Italian sports media outlets recently.
In an interview with TMW he spoke about his Euro dream.
“I hope to achieve the European dream. We have the last matches to play, and there is much will to do well in them,” the Italian-born naturalized Albanian, de Biasi, said.
Albania plays away in Denmark in September and a few days later in Tirana against Portugal. While in October, it faces Serbia and Armenia.
Albania is in the third place in the group, but equal points with Denmark. Portugal heads Group I.
“This summer a foreign club contacted me. But at this moment I have a mission: Give an end to my experience in Albania with an important result,” said de Biasi.
