TIRANA, Sept. 23 – The first eye contact experiment was held last weekend in the artificial lake area of Tirana, as part of a global event aimed to promote the strengthening of genuine human relations. The experiment, which took place during the UN International Week of Peace, lasted for 3 hours and gathered around 100 people.
Participants were only asked to bring a blanket, some cushions to sit on and their good will. Matched with a gracious lake view and refreshing evening breeze, participants and passerby-s alike were invited by the organizers to get comfortable and share a minute’s eye contact with a stranger in order to establish a connection that is impervious to differing languages, nationalities and opinions.
The organizers described the reason of the event with the following statement posted on the event’s official webpage: “Our global society has become thirsty for true connection and this experience allows you to be the change you wish to see in the world by creating an authentic, loving and respectful platform for human connection to flourish in public. When we feel connected to each other, we feel more peaceful, more open and less alone.”
