TIRANA, May 17 – Police in southern Gjirokastra district last Sunday arrested one of their officers Ervin Hysa who was stopped while transporting drugs. He was arrested while trying to take out of the city 75 kilograms of cannabis which he had allegedly bought in the village of Lazarat and was bound for capital Tirana.
Meanwhile, in collaboration with Albanian police Italian counterparts seized in Bari 431 kilos of cannabis believed to be coming from Albania. The drugs were hidden in a five-meter speedboat. The operation was carried out by the Italian authorities following a tip from Albanian colleagues. The speedboat was first seen from the Durres monitoring center moving at fast speed toward Italy. They soon coordinated efforts with the Guardia di Finanzia in Vlore and Durres and also in Italy and also neighboring Greece.
