TIRANA, Feb. 9 – Macedonian Economy Minister Bekim Neziri visited Tirana in an effort to increase the cooperation between the two neighboring countries in the field of energy.

He met with Albanian Energy Minister Damian Gjiknuri mainly to discuss on the 400 kV interconnection lines Bitola-Elbasan and also on signing a possible memorandum of cooperation on the Radika project.

The interconnection line will be important for both countries and regionally in the context of the integration of the countries into the European energy network.

While the Radika project is of main concern to Albania especially as if it was done as neighboring Macedonia had first planned it would significantly reduce waters coming to the Ohrid Lake and also to the Drini River, which is a main resource for the electricity production in Albania. The river springs in Macedonian territory.

The two ministers agreed to create a joint working group to discuss on the exploitation of waters on both sides of the border.
