TIRANA, June 7 – Albania’s Mirush Kabashi has become the first international actor to perform at the UN office in Geneva where his “True Apology of Socrates, a political and satirical pamphlet by Costas Varnalis, was staged last week. The UN office opened its doors to such event in honour of the 100th anniversary of Albania’s independence.
Representatives of more than 200 UN diplomatic missions and hundreds of citizen and students attended Kabashi’s monodrama in Albanian at the UN office hall which for the first time opened its doors to a theatrical performance.
“I am happy I talked to diplomats of the world democracy in the language of Socrates, who was one of the founders of democratic principles in Greek antiquity,” said Kabashi.
Last June, Mirush Kabashi was the only Balkan actor in France’s European Spring Festival where his True Apology of Socrates, was performed in Lyon. The monodrama which marks its 15 anniversary was performed in Albanian, receiving critical acclaim in the festival held from May 23 to June 2.
This year, “The True Apology of Socrates” marked its 15 anniversary on the stage of the Albanian Theatre. In the course of these 15 years, the monodrama has been staged all around the world, winning several prizes.
