This year at the 52nd edition of the Venice Biennale, the Albanian pavilion was presented by five young artists, from Armand Lulaj to Heldi Pema. They are all artists who belong to the new generation. They were selected by the Curator of the Museum of Miami. Albanian artists were represented for the first time in the Venice Biennale ten years ago in 1997 with works by the Kosovo artist Sislej Xhafaj. In 1999, they presented themselves with a joint exhibition, including Xhafaj. In 2001, Anri Sala was introduced and presented his works at Arsenal, invited by Harald Szeemann, at that time the Curator of the Venic Biennale. He presented the video “Uomodumo” (Man to Man), winning First Award for young artists. In 2005, Albania was to be represented for the first time at the Biennale with its own official pavilion, with work by Adrian Paci for the Albanian pavilion and Sislej Xhafaj for Arsenal. Now, for more than one Century, the Venice Biennale has been valued as one of the most important activities of contemporary art on the international scene. During the first three days of the inauguration, the activities of this Biennale are followed by one million visitors from around the world.
