TIRANA, March 12 – Albanian athlete Luiza Gega has finished sixth in the women’s 1,500 metres the IAAF World Indoor Championships in 2014 in Poland, becoming the first ever Albanian finalist in the competition.
“I feel happy for this success even though I could have achieved more,” Gega told Albanian media.
Gega and her trainer appeal for more financial support by government considering the difficult training condition.
“In the third and final heat, Albania’s Luiza Gega made the pace until the USA’s Treniere Moser swung past her 30 metres from the bell, the latter winning in 4:12.63 in the slowest of the three races as Gega came home behind her to become the first ever Albanian finalist at the World Indoor Championships,” says the International Association of Athletics Federations.
Gega, 25, who specializes in middle-distance running, is the Albanian record holder in the 800, 1500 and 3000 metres, as well as 3000 metres steeplechase.
