TIRANA, March 3 – Some of Albania’s latest movies are participating in Italy’s Piemonte Movie GLocal Film Festival which is being held in Turin from March 3 to 9. This year’s special section of the festival is dedicated to the Albania cinema through “Focus Albania” programme which will showcase three Albanian movies including one by a Kosovo director from March 4 to 7.
Albania’s participation in the festival was made possible by the Albanian Cultural Centre and the Vatra Albanian-Italian Association based in Turin.
The first Albanian movie screened at the festival was Alive, a 2009 production directed by Artan Minarolli, starring Nik Xhelilaj who recently won the Shooting Star Award in the 2011 Berlinale as one of Europe’s top 10 acting talents for his role in The Albanian movie.
East, West, East, a 2009 production directed by Gjegj Xhuvani and Kukumi directed by Kosovo’s Isa Qosja were also screened in the programme dedicated to Albania.
Erion Kadilli, an Albanian young director who grew up and graduated in Italy is also participating in festival with a documentary on war in Bosnia.
