TIRANA, March 23 – Albania has confirmed its participation in the 63rd edition of the Cannes Film Festival scheduled to be held from May 12 to 23. The decision was taken by the newly elected council of the National Cinematographic Centre (NCC). Albania will be present in the South East European pavilion bringing together all Balkan countries.
According to the head of the NCC, Artan Minarolli, Albania will display its cinema productions starting from 1997 and more specifically those of past two years.
The participation in the festival will also be an opportunity to promote Albanian movies in the international market and important movie events such as the Cannes and Berlin film festivals.
The decision regarding the Albanian movies participating in the festival and other details will be taken in another meeting of the board of the National Cinematographic Council, which has recently become a member of the European Film Promotion.
Founded in 1946, The Cannes Film Festival is one of the world’s oldest and most prestigious film festivals. The festival is held annually in the resort town of Cannes, in the south of France. This year’s president of the jury will be renowned American film director Tim Burton.
