TIRANA, Nov. 1 – With only few weeks to go before Albania celebrates its centenary independence in late November, the agenda of celebrations that will take place in Vlora, where Ismail Qemali declared the country’s independence, and capital Tirana has been partly unveiled. The calendar of celebrations will kick off in Skopje on Nov. 25 with a gala concert in the local sports palace for the Albanian community in Macedonia, which officially accounts for 25 percent of the population. On Nov. 27 celebrations will move to neighbouring Kosovo where the Morine-Merdare highway linking Kosovo to Albania will be inaugurated completing the Road of Nation. On Nov. 27 celebrations will move to Vlora, southern Albania, where a big concert is scheduled on the eve of the big anniversary. On Nov. 28, exactly 100 years after Albania declared its independence, the country’s President, the Prime Minister and highest officials, will hoist the Albanian flag in a ceremony in Vlora and lay wreaths in the local Monument of Independence. Events will later transfer in Tirana where an exhibition featuring Skanderbeg’s helmet and sword, currently on display at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, will be showcased at the National Museum of History in Tirana.
