TIRANA, Feb.7 – Hundreds of Albanians from the echelons of theater, culture, artistic and political fields gave their last farewell to the flower covered coffin of Kadri Roshi. Under a grey sky that seemed to mourn this loss, they gave an honorary salute to the departure of what was known as one of the greatest Gods of acting in the country. Kadri Roshi was born in 1924 and started acting when he was 21. He received artistic education in Zagreb and Prague. He dedicated almost 50 years to his professional acting career. His name is associated with the majority of successful theatrical and cinematographic productions in the country. Almost 100 theater roles and 30 figures in films make up the CV of Kadri Roshi. He was honored by several prizes, such as “Artist of the People” and “Honor of the Nation”. His achievements were widely recognized and cherished throughout the Albanian art arena. He has played along with all the big names of Albanian art such as Drita Pelingu, Violeta Manushi, Tinka Kurti, Reshat Arbana, Margarita Xhepa, Marika Kallamata, Luiza Xhuvani, etc. The latest movie in which he starred was the internationally appraised Colonel Bunker, under the direction of Kujtim Cashku. The farewell ceremony was characterized by strong emotional displays as the Albanian art scene will now miss one of its leading figures. Roshi was an educational and inspirational icon to all young actors that collaborated with him. To his audience he will be always associated with typical roles such as one of the latest, that of the wise and humble Aesop telling his moral tales. He also realized a televised documentary reciting the fables while smoking his traditional cigarette on the sea banks of Karavasta, the Laguna of his dreams, where his soul will rest. Roshi’s soft profile with the aura of white hair adorning his face with noble light, his powerful voice, his impeccable acting, his never-ending passion and dedication to performances is his best heritage, the testimonial he has left for future generations.
