TIRANA, March 1 – Olesia Duka, famous capital dentist who got arrested this week for financial fraud, was sentenced to prison on Wednesday by Tirana’s district court.
A previous court decision seized part of the dentist’s assets and property, which local media reports doesn’t cover more than â…“ of the fraud committed.
Duka, 38, was arrested based on suspicions she’d approximately taken €900,000 from businessman Idlir Hoxha through deception and misuse of trust.
During the court session, Duka denied all accusations, saying Hoxha and his brother had fined her, and that she had not committed fraud, local media reported.
“You must leave me time to present my evidence, as this issue has affected my career and image. All obligations have been paid through the bank, not my pocket,” Duka reportedly said.
She added Hoxha and his brother have pressured her since June 2017, and asked for the context of the story to come out, even though she was the one to benefit the amount.
According to the prosecution Hoxha, who is the owner of an exchange and a traveling agency, met the dentist in Nov. 2016.
At the time, Duka asked Hoxha for an initially small amount of money to buy dentistry devices and was careful to return the amount in time. With time, however, the prosecution alleges the amount asked started growing, leaving Hoxha with a financial damage of close to € 1 million.
The prosecution has raised doubts Duka has used the same financial fraud scheme with other people as well.
A look at Duka’s public social networks indicate the dentist was working with high profile artists in Albania, as well as taking part in many charity events alongside politicians and lawmakers.
