TIRANA, Nov. 19 – Switzerland-based Albanian jazz singer Elina Duni and her quartet performed in the London Jazz Festival this week, brining Albanian folk and jazz music mixed with Balkan sounds. The Elina Duni quartet was accompanied by Armenian jazz pianist Tigran Hamasyan in her November 19 performance.
Named as one of the best jazz festivals in the world, 2013 marks the 21st birthday of the capital’s biggest city-wide music festival in a 10-day celebration of music that extends throughout London, taking an extraordinary range of live music to venues of every shape and size.
Born in Tirana, Albania, in 1981, in an artist family, Elina Duni made her first steps on stage as a singer at the age of five and sang for the National Radio and Television. In 1991, after the fall of the communist regime, she arrived in Switzerland and settled in Geneva together with her mother where she started the classical piano and discovers jazz.
