TIRANA, May 19 – The Gerdec Victims’ Families Association on Wednesday handed over a request for compensation for families who lost their members in the explosion.
Twenty-six people were killed and some 300 others injured from the blast in Gerdec two years ago at a private ammunition disposal factory.
The family members asked for a proper compensation from the government.
They insisted they will go to the end to their request for compensation and also to find the responsible persons for the blast.
Twenty-eight officials of the defense ministry, armed forces and a private company in charge of the disposal are on trial.
Former Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu, now the environment minister, was discharged from the accusation after he regained his immunity following parliamentary elections last year.
