TIRANA, Oct 27 – Albanian media reported that Andi Belliu, one of the witnesses for the March 15 blast in Gerdec, which killed 26 and injured 300 people, was shortly detained by police for no obvious reason.
Belliu, a former worker at Gerdec factory, provided testimony to the prosecutor’s office about the hazardous conditions at Gerdec and he also told the prosecutor that he witnessed the movement of ammunition to evade detection by a journalist for The New York Times. He was kept for ten hours by police.
He was released after told he was similar to another suspect.
Kosta Trebicka, an Albanian businessman considered as the whistle-blower of the weapon scandal with the US company taking them to Afghanistan, was found dead in September.
A senior official of the defense ministry, owner of the Albanian disposal company and a manager have been arrested and charged with murder for the case.
Former Defense Minister Fatmir Mediu has also been questioned together with other senior military officials.
