Germany’s world heritage on display in Tirana

TIRANA. Oct. 3 – The “World Heritage in Germany,” an exhibition showcasing the beauty and variety of Germany’s World Cultural Heritage Sites is the newest German October event launched this week at the German embassy premises in Tirana. Held as part of the German October events, the exhibition commemorates the 40th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The World Heritage Convention, adopted in 1972, is UNESCO’s most successful and most visible programme. So far, 188 countries have signed the Convention. It is seen as the most important international instrument ever adopted by the community of nations to protect its cultural heritage.
In November of last year, Germany, an important UNESCO partner, was elected to serve on the key body, the World Heritage Committee, for four years.
The exhibition will be open to the public weekdays from 2.00 to 4.00 p.m. from 04 to 10 October 2012. From Oct. 15 to 23 the exhibition will be displayed at the Edward Lear gallery in Berat and finally travel to the southern UNESCO town of Gjirokastra in late October.
“Twenty-five years, the art of creation” will be the motto of this year’s sixth edition of the German October events which mark the 25th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between Germany and Albania. “Architecture and urban planning” will also be a specific topic as a form of art which surrounds modern human beings and influences on the everyday life and its psychology in the same way like music, literature and painting.
Dozens of events, including exhibitions, movies, concerts, trade fairs, conferences, and a beer fest will be staged from Sept. 27 to Nov. 14 in Tirana, Durres, Elbasan, Shkod첬 Kor諬 Gjirokast첬 Lezh묠Berat and Pogradec.
