TIRANA, May 30 – “Lost life.” This is the title of the exhibition painter Gjovalin Paci has opened at the Nikolet Vasia gallery in Durres after its display at the National Museum of History in Tirana. The exhibition featuring more than 100 paintings, mainly portraits and compositions, pays tribute to victims of the country’s 45-year communist regime and is divided in a series of cycles such as personality, family, tradition, experiences, communism, post-communism and collective memory.
The veteran painter from Shkodra was inspired by an original confession by writer Ejell Coba in a book under the same title. “This exhibition is a tribute to all lost lives and especially the author of the book which has made one of the most beautiful confessions about dictatorship,” says the painter. In his paintings, Paci has used symbols to portray communism as a phenomenon, avoiding Albanian political figures.
