TIRANA, May 22 – The High Council of Justice, or KLD, voted Tuesday against firing Artan Gjermeni, one of its members, following accusation from the government and its justice Minister, Ilir Rusmajli, that Gjermeni has alleged links to organized crime.
The KLD debated, during a long session, with questions and answers from Rusmajli and Gjermeni about the alleged links to Aldo Bare’s criminal gang.
Gjermeni has previously been chief judge in the southern town of Lushnja.
Following the discussion, the KLD voted 6-5 against firing Gjermeni.
Gjermeni has also resigned from participation in KLD meetings for six months giving a free hand to investigate his career.
