TIRANA, Oct. 22 – The Czech Republic embassy in Tirana is marking its Independence Day and the rotating presidency of the Visegrad Group (V4) with an exhibition of contemporary glass and porcelain from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia.
The exhibition named “Hot & Cold” was designed by Czech Curator Petr Novy from the Museum of Glass and Jewellery in Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic and originally presented within the Platform Culture Central Europe.
The exhibition, which will be open at National History Museum in Tirana until November 5, features innovative as well as classic designs of drinking glass and porcelain manufactured by companies in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic. It introduces some small studios, e.g. “si.li” from Slovakia. It reminds the public of outstanding brands of V4 Countries as Czech “Moser” , Hungarian “Herend” or Polish “Polskie Fabryki Porcelany Cmielow i Chodziez“. At the same time it presents companies that are rather new or revitalized as Czech “Bomma” or “Ave Clara, says the Czech embassy in Tirana.
Petr Novy, the main curator of the exhibition, describes the items on display as indispensable companions in drinking all kinds of beverages, hot or cold.
“Tumbler glasses, goblets, stemware, cups, carafes, decanters and pitchers have become our indispensable companions in drinking all kinds of beverages, hot or cold. Although the basic shapes of drinking ware are determined by its purpose, in Europe they have not ceased to evolve over the centuries,” he says. “Glass producers have worked tirelessly to come up with ever new innovations in form and decoration as well as in methods of manufacture, in order to meet various tastes and demands of customers from all over the world,” adds the curator.
Established in 1991, The Visegrad Group reflects the efforts Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia to work together in a number of fields of common interest within the all-European integration.
