Human Rights Festival brings world famous movies to Tirana

TIRANA, March. 19- Snapshots of the denounced world, human stories that transcend boundaries, movies from all over the globe pointing alarm fingers, blame fingers, soothing fingers. The cinematographic school ‘Marubi’ in Tirana is hosting once again the festival of movies and documentaries which focus on the treatment of human rights worldwide. Starting on Wednesday and featuring an intensive screening schedule till Sunday, this festival is once again brought to the audience as a collection of internationally acclaimed cinematographic works which aim at universal awareness-raising about problems and issues plaguing our world. Movies such as ‘the death of Mr. Lazarescu’ (a Cannes-awarded feature on the terrible state of Romanian hospital system which raises questions about the Albanian one) and ‘Carla’s List’ (a mastery account of the challenging work experience of Hague Attorney Carla del Ponte by director Marcel Schupbach) and others bring the artistic perception towards human, social and political phenomena. The thematic focus on totalitarian and post totalitarian systems according to festival director Kujtim Cashku, also the head of the Marubi school, will add depth to the links between Albanian and global issues in their similarities and differences. “This festival is courageous and brave,” says Cashku. One of the founders of this festival is also Theodore Orlin, professor at the Ithaca University, who has visited all post-communist countries to collect their experience. Orlin comments that it will require time for the mentality of these countries to change and Albania is no exception. This is the third year in a row that Marubi is hosting this festival. This edition features 28 movies screened from 3 to 10 pm and two of which come from Albanian directors.
