TIRANA, Oct. 10 – A play dedicated to Albania’s independence leader Ismail Qemali will make its premiere in early November when it is scheduled to open the Pan-National Albanian Theatre Festival. The play which recently won the Albanian drama competition was written Bashkim Koze and will bring on stage some of the best Albanian such as Fatos Sela, Bujar Asqeriu, and Roland Trebicka.
“This is dramatic confession by Ismail Qemali few years after the declaration of independence. We do not claim to bring the whole life of Ismail Qemali on stage but stop in his confession and the main figures often antagonistic surrounding him,” says director Spiro Duni.
Fatos Sela who is starring as Ismail Qemali admits that artistically performing such important historical figure is not easy.
The “̮drra e Ismail Qemalit” (Ismail Qemali’s Dream) was selected among 31 plays by authors from Albania, as well as from Kosova, Macedonia, United States, Switzerland, Greece, and Italy.
Ismail Qemali (1844 – 1919) is remembered as a distinguished leader of the Albanian national movement, a founder of the modern Albanian state and its first head of state and government.
