March Sleen’s Nero comic displayed in Shkodra

TIRANA, April 17 – Nero, a humoristic and optimistic comic book character for the general public, is being featured in Albania in an exhibition by Belgian author Marc Sleen. The exhibition brought by the Belgian Embassy to Albania, located in Bulgaria, in collaboration with the ‘Marc Sleen Foundation’, is featuring at the EU Info Centre in Shkodra, northern Albania, where it will remain open until 21 April.
Speaking at the exhibition’s launch ceremony, Anick Van Calster, the Belgian Ambassador to Albania, resident in Bulgaria, pointed out that this exhibition is going through a global itinerary, starting in Sofia. She was enthusiastic about the impact of this comic strip exhibition and the interest shown by Shkodra citizens offering the opportunity to discover this specific art which is not so well known in Albania, although local talented artists work on it.
Sleen’s work has been recognized on numerous occasions and has won many awards. Nero is a humoristic and optimistic comic book character for the general public. Through the character Nero, Marc Sleen tells with an incomparable enthusiasm and an extraordinary imagination the hilarious adventures Nero and his friends’ encounter. He always places them in improbable situations which challenge the limit of the reasonable. Contrary to other comic book characters as Tintin, Lucky Luke or Spirou, Nero is not a hero strictly speaking. He is a typical man who dreams only to read his newspaper, laze about, a glass of beer and a portion of French fries within reach. The exhibition depicts not only the extraordinary artistic and linguistic talents of the author, but also his interest for nature, wild animals and safaris.
