TIRANA, March.1- It is not common to be able to see two old movie stars, icons of an age like Clark Gable and Claudette Clobert, in a fabulous romantic comedy of 1934. Yet, this Thursday the Marubi film school showed the movie for old film fans, with a free entrance to all cinematography aficionados. The good old back-and-white movie swept away the OSCARs of that year. The movie explores social and psychological themes of family, love and rebellion to conventionality. Ellie Andrews has just tied the knot with society aviator King Westley when she is whisked away to her father’s yacht and out of King’s clutches. Ellie jumps ship and eventually winds up on a bus headed back to her husband. Reluctantly she must accept the help of out-of- work reporter Peter Warne. Actually, Warne doesn’t give her any choice: either she sticks with him until he gets her back to her husband, or he’ll blow the whistle on Ellie to her father. Either way, Peter gets what (he thinks!) he wants, a really juicy newspaper article. The Marubi film school brings to the screen a movie each Thursday and the entrance is always free. It is a great opportunity to keep up with good movies and not forge the classic ones that made the cinema’s history.
