TIRANA, Nov. 8 – Memoranda, appeals, protests, calls to Big Powers, and international conferences on the Albanian question dating from the League of Prizren in 1878 to the Congress of Lushnja in 1920 are being displayed in an exhibition at the National Library in Tirana. Held as part of the centenary of independence celebration events, the Memoranda Time exhibition features 50 rare publicly announced materials from the Library’s collection including books, brochures, manuscripts and extracts by Albanians in Albania and the Diaspora but even by foreign friends. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony last weekend, the National Library’s director Aurel Plasari said “I hope our selection has been appropriate and this exhibition responds to the public interest. I invite you to enjoy some surprises related to really rare materials.” Culture Minister Aldo Bumci said the exhibition was first of all aimed at acquainting visitors to part of Albania’s history and pay tribute to all those who contributed to Albania’s independence and the consolidation of the state. Prime Minister Sali Berisha also hailed the exhibition showcasing documents of Albanians’ political and diplomatic efforts to build their independent state. “The documents of the League of Prizren embodying the ideal of national unity, an ideal which will inspire Albanians at any time for development unity and new horizons are very impressing,” said Berisha. The exhibition will remain open at the National Library in Tirana until Nov. 8 before travelling to Prishtina where it will be displayed from Nov. 12 to 28.
