TIRANA, Sep. 8 – In the context of the intensification of the lobbying efforts from the Tirana government on the recognition of Kosovo, Foreign Minister Ilir Meta has gone to New York to take part at the United Nations General Assembly and meet with many ambassadors of different countries.
Meta started a tour of meetings in New York in support of the issue of Kosovo, preceding the Session of Sep. 9, when its member States are expected to hold discussions on the Advisory Opinion rendered by the International Court of Justice( ICJ) and the Serbian Draft-Resolution on this matter.
Meta will be meeting with various factors to express Albania’s support for the ICJ Opinion and the country’s position against Serbia’s resolution.
Meta has already met with ambassadors of different countries in the UN talking with them on the new reality produced in the Balkans in the aftermath of the proclamation of Kosovo’s independence.
Meta has expressed Albania’s position that the Serbian draft resolution is controversial since it is in opposition to the Advisory Opinion of the ICJ, which was required by Belgrade.
“Serbia should respect the ICJ Opinion and listen more to the clear messages coming from the EU and the USA. The draft resolution does not serve at all the constructive climate we have produced in Western Balkans and the Serbia’s European perspective,” he was quoted from New York.
