TIRANA, Jan. 22 – Monday President Alfred Moisiu convened a group of nongovernmental organizations trying to promote the respect of the code of ethics he had sent to all the political parties ahead of the Feb. 18 local elections. The NGOs will monitor the respect of the code of ethics, something which was strongly supported by the president. Meanwhile, participants told reporters they had noticed the blunt violation of such a code, which is a moral but not a legal rule. The Albanian Helsinki Committee made a statement accusing the governing Democratic party and its leader and prime Minister Sali Berisha for using harsh, offensive and unacceptable language against his opponent Edi Rama.
