National competition ‘ONUFRI 2007’ launched

TIRANA, Dec.20- For the 14th consecutive year, the annual international visual arts contest was opened at the National Gallery of Fine Arts. The theme of this year’s “Onufri” contest is “Betrayal in Art”. The exhibition will stay open from December 20 to January 30, 2008. Organized by the National Gallery of Fine Arts, “Onufri” is the most important annual artistic event for the National Gallery of Fine Arts as well as the entire world of visual arts in Albania .This year’s theme for the contest is a tendentious reading of Pygmalion’s myth which seeks to underline the unavoidable tension that accompanies the artist when confronting his oeuvre, the communication codes, the society and vice versa.
This year’s concept of the event offers a special feature to “Onufri 2007”. A parallel exhibition, titled “In The name Of The People”, will run as an appendix to “Betrayal in Art”. “In The name Of The People” features a unique selection of works from the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Fine Arts.
