Nine churches to get restored, traditional villages to be declared protected areas

According to a press release by the Ministry of Culture, the historical areas of ”‹”‹Himare, village of Dhermi and Vuno will be declared protected areas while in the frame of another project entitled “The Journey of Faith” nine churches on the Albanian coastline will be restored.

In the frame of “Heritage – a Development engine” project the Ministry of Culture has announced that traditional village settlements on Albanian coastline will get restored and declared protected areas.

With the aim to turn the settlements into touristic resources this initiative according to the Ministry of Culture will revitalize the traditional values ”‹”‹of these areas, attract more tourists as the summer season is coming soon, as well as further develop the economy.  The presentation of the project was attended by Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro, and other important Albanian figures.

The villages of Vuno and Dhermi are two of the most visited villages in the Southern Albania by tourist from all over the world. The city of Himara is also very busy during the summer season because a lot of locals, as well as foreigners choose Himara to spend their summer holidays.

Lying between the Ceraunian Mountains and the Ionian Sea, the villages of Pilur, Kudhes, Qeparo, Ilias, and Palasa are also part of the region of Himara, which is predominantly populated by an ethnic  Greek community.
