TIRANA, Nov 10 – The governing Democratic Party is to convene Dec 12 to hold its convention following the June 28 parliamentary elections. The convention will vote for the party’s top post and also other leading posts.
What is clear from the start is that party chairman Sali Berisha, also prime minister, faces no challenge among its ranks. There is no other person in the governing Democrats who would now ‘dare’ face Berisha for the post.
That was also made clear earlier this week by the party’s deputy Astrit Patozi, also head of the parliamentary group. “Mr. Berisha has the main merit for the June 28 elections,” he said.
Patozi said that it was better they were clear with no fake rivals like the opposition Socialists in August presenting a low-profile person to challenge Edi Rama for the post.
Patozi also said that the party’s leadership had shown with the victory at the June elections, with the country’s achievements they were good in their posts.
He added that posts of the party’s secretariat would be likely changed.
No rivalry to Berisha’s party post
