TIRANA, March 25 – The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe helped build the Centre for rehabilitation, education and consultation for children and women in need in Gerdec, Vora Municipality, following effects of the last year’s blast at the ammunition disposal private company that killed 26 and injured 264 people, including destruction or damage of thousands of homes and business compounds.
The project was a joint effort by the OSCE Presence to Albania and the NGO Vision covering the construction, equipment and staffing of a Centre, located in the midst of the village. The building will serve as a kindergarten, a women centre, and a doctor’s room for both, the kindergarten and the women centre.
The project aims at helping the children of Gerdec to recover and prepare them psychologically for a normal school cycle. Women will be provided with vocational training, thus increasing their opportunities for employment. Both, women and children, will also receive health care consultation by an experienced physician who will regularly visit the centre and offer medical assistance for the inhabitants of the area.
