TIRANA, Oct. 23 – The Albanian parliament has sent a letter to the French foreign minister whose country will lead the next year’s summit on the Berlin Process, asking for the inclusion of the region’s parliaments in the process on the Western Balkans EU integration started a year ago.

The western Balkan countries, whose parliamentary representatives took part at the summit in Tirana on European integration, want to be part of the process.

The parliamentarians believe that their inclusion will further strengthen their monitoring role and will “contribute to the strengthening of security, political stability, improvement of the political climate and social-economic prosperity in the Western Balkan countries.”

Earlier this year, in May in Tirana leaders of Western Balkan countries that are seeking to enter the European Union urged the bloc to speed up the accession process, arguing that would bolster fragile peace and stability in the region. They also asked the EU to fund infrastructure works in their countries.
