TIRANA, April 30 – Following the death of a Democratic Party legislator there will be partial elections in his district. This election may help the two opposing political groups in the upcoming fight for the new president
Besnik Jacelli, 41, of the governing Democratic Party, was killed in a car crash at midnight Thursday while traveling on a small road near the capital, Tirana.
Jacelli was a parliamentarian representing the Pogradec area in southeast Albania.
He had defeated both the Socialist candidate Maqo Lakrori and the Socialist Movement for Integration candidate Eduard Belegu.
Figures show that if the two leftist opposition parties run in a coalition they may get Jacelli’s seat in parliament and reduce the number to 84 votes which the ruling Democrats need to elect a new president in June.
Partial election needed to replace legislator killed in crash
