TIRANA, Sept. 5 – Head of the prison department of the Justice Ministry Saimir Shehri said that social workers or psychologists would be sent to each prison as part of improving the conditions for Albanian prisoners. That will also serve to improve the relations of the prisoners with those under arrest who often are sheltered at the same building. Social workers normally cover 80-90 prisoners a day, which is a high and hard work for them. Thus the prison department decided to increase the number of these workers with psychologists, who have recently graduated the faculty of social affairs and psychology. They will work six hours a day but it was not made known how much they would be paid for that. The department has chosen 26 social workers and is looking for the possibility to further increase their number in the future.
