TIRANA, March 27 – As of Sunday, TIA’s only operating flights to / from Istanbul will be suspended until further notice. The decision comes after the Turkish government announced on Friday that all international flights will be cancelled in efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus.

“We have entered a new period where we need to make more sacrifices,”  President Reccep Tayyip Erdogan said. “We won’t fall into inaction nor panic.”

So far, the number of COVID-19 victims in Turkey is 92 while 5,698 coronavirus cases were confirmed on Friday.

Today marks the 16th day that Albania is under national lockdown. Last week the Albanian government suspended all flights to/from Rinas, excluding Istanbul as well as repatriation, humanitarian and cargo flights. On Friday, Albanian PM Edi Rama announced that 1379 Albanian nationals who could not return to Albania due to the COVID-19 measures, would be repatriated through national flag carrier airline ‘Air Albania’ starting on Monday.
