TIRANA, Dec. 26 – The opposition Socialist Party has attached the transparency and accountability of the officially-declared income of Prime Minister Sali Berisha’s children.
Socialist lawmaker Taulant Balla has gone in front of the television cameras to show how much Argita and Shkelzen Berisha have earned last year, based on their official declarations. (They are required by law to submit such information.) Balla has said that it is illogical that Argita and her husband have earned hundreds of thousands of euros simply as being university professors in some universities. He also questions the income for Shkelzen and asks that they should clarify how they have earned such money.
Balla has accused them they exploit the fact of being the premier’s children to earn them.
Berisha’s children responded saying that everything has been legal and Argita’s husband, Jamarber Malltezi, has also sent a case to the prosecutor’s office asking them for a compensation of two million leks from Balla who has offended him with such accusations.
Balla said Prime Minister Berisha should resign if he cannot provide a clear answer on the income of his children.
