TIRANA, Aug. 30 – Bulgarian and Albanian speleologists have studied nearly 300 caves in 20 years, according to Alexey Zhalov, deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Speleology Federation and head of the project Bulgarian Speleological Studies in Albania.
Speaking to FOCUS News Agency, he said this November it will be 20 years since the Bulgarian studies started in Albania.
“Kilometers of caves have been studied,” he said.
The research has covered Albania’s deepest cave with 610 meters, which was considered as a record for Bulgarian speleologists, because that was the deepest cave their teams had found and studied.
Another Albanian cave was 505 meters deep. Caves deeper than 100 meters are about 20.
Zhalov said that diving studies was underway in some Albanian caves.
